About my work

My drawings are exercises in balance and control. Their substance is borrowed from dreams, and their form is inspired by cartoon.

Recurring dreams, both personal and collective, haunt me for their persistence and universality. Interpreting these dream scenarios as visual narratives is my attempt to decipher their message and acknowledge their omens—as if drawing them might ward off misfortune or break a spell.

I’ve always gravitated towards the language of cartoon for its capacity to abstract. Playing along the spectrum of specific to symbolic, the inherent meaning of an image can be taken at face value, or called into question if its depiction is even slightly distorted. The shape of things, the color of people, point of view—I try to make these elements work with and against each other to create a pattern that leads me on, only to upend my expectations.
